plant 3: week 3

good growth. no fertilizer

plant 2: week3

began adding fertilizer made with supplements

Plant 1: week 3

began applying compost fertilizer

plant 3: week 5

little to no growth. no fertilizer

Plant 2: week 5

substantial growth. fertilizer made of supplements added.

Plant 1: Week 5

substantial growth. plant and vegetable matter compost/fertilizer added.

Plant #3: week 1

I do not have a pic available because the sprouts all died and I had to replant them and wasn't here to obtain a photo when they sprouted and simply forgot. Sorry guys !

Plant #2: week 1

First Sprouts. No fertilizer yet.

Ecology Selfie: Geotropism

Geotropism: the growth of the parts of plants with respect to the force of gravity. the leaves grow down and the stem/shoot of the plant is upward

Ecology Selfie: Phototropism

Phototropism:the orientation of a plant or other organism in response to light. The hibiscuses are bloomed and facing in the direction of the sun.

Ecology Selfie: Evidence of decomposition

Evidence of decomposition: Decomposition is the process by which organic substances are broken down into a much simpler form of matter. this was previously banana peels, egg shells and manure.

Ecology Selfie: Abiotic factor

Abiotic Factor: Abiotic factors refer to non-living physical and chemical elements in the ecosystem. Examples of abiotic factors are water, air, soil, sunlight, and minerals.

Ecology Selfie: nonflying insect

nonflying insect: a bug who travels or moves by means of walking and is not capable of flying.
ie ants

Ecology Selfie: Ecosystem

Ecosystem:a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment
p.s. that's me on the far left of the photo

Ecology Selfie: Population

Population:a community of animals, plants, or humans among whose members interbreeding occurs.
ie the controlled populations of these breeds of fish

Ecology Selfie: Keratin

Keratin:a fibrous protein forming the main structural constituent of hair, feathers, hoofs, claws, horns, etc

Ecology Selfie: Autotroph

Autotroph:an organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide

Ecology Selfie: Fungus

Fungus: any of a group of unicellular, multicellular, or syncytial spore-producing organisms feeding on organic matter, including molds, yeast, mushrooms, and toadstools. ie the fungal infectionknown as athlete's foot.

Ecology Selfie: Cellulose

Cellulose:an insoluble substance that is the main constituent of plant cell walls and of vegetable fibers such as cotton. It is a polysaccharide consisting of chains of glucose monomers. ie the kale in my hand or the cotton in my shirt.

Ecology Selfie: Monocot Leaf

Monocot Leaf: Leaf veins are parallel.

ecology selfie: dicot leaf

Dicot Leaf: Leaf veins are reticulated (branched).

Ecology Selfie: Commensalism

Commensalism:  class of relationships between two organisms where one organism benefits from the other without affecting it. I benefit from the plants and trees because they provide food and oxygen, but the plants do not benefit from me.

Ecology Selfie: Mutualism

Mutualism: the way two organism of different species exist in a relationship in which each individual benefits from the activity of the other.

Ecology Selfie: wind dispersed seed

Wind Dispersed Seed: is the movement or transport of seeds away from the parent plant by being carried in the wind. p.s. sorry for the bad quality

Ecology Selfie: wind dispersed seed

Wind Dispersed Seed: is the movement or transport of seeds away from the parent plant by being carried in the wind. p.s. sorry for the bad quality

Ecology Selfie: Moss

Moss: a small flowerless green plant that lacks true roots, growing in low carpets or rounded cushions in damp habitats and reproducing by means of spores released from stalked capsules

Ecology Selfie: Feather

Feather: any of the flat appendages growing from a bird's skin and forming its plumage, consisting of a partly hollow horny shaft fringed with vanes of barbs.

Ecology Selfie: Flower

Flower: the seed-bearing part of a plant, consisting of reproductive organs (stamens and carpels) that are typically surrounded by a brightly colored corolla (petals) and a green calyx (sepals).

Ecology Selfie: Community

Community: a group of interdependent organisms of different species growing or living together in a specified habitat. ie. my neighborhood/city

Ecology Selfie: Reptile

Reptile: a vertebrate animal of a class that are distinguished by having a dry scaly skin and typically laying soft-shelled eggs on land. ie: Lizard

Ecology Selfie: Second degree growth in plants

2* growth in plants: the growth that results from cell division in the cambia or lateral meristems and that causes the stems and roots to thicken.
Ex: Tree bark and roots

Ecology Selfie: Bird

Bird: a warm-blooded egg-laying vertebrate distinguished by the possession of feathers, wings, and a beak and (typically) by being able to fly.

Ecology Selfie: Fish

Fish: A limbless cold-blooded vertebrate animal with gills and fins that lives its entirety in water.
